Business Model Canvas

Writing a strategic plan for your business, service, or product means the difference between thinking up amazing ideas and executing them. By putting together an outline of your objectives and potential needs, you create a more focused approach.

  • Have you ever considered yourself a curator of innovation and ideas?

  • Is it easy to dream things up but impossible to figure out how to get started?

  • How do you eat a huge meal? One reasonable bite at a time.

Creating your plan involves some key actions on your part:

Do some initial research. Are you sure there is a need for what you are proposing to do?

Assuming your research indicates the need… start by identifying the Who, What, Why, Where, and How (much) of your idea…

  • Who do you plan to serve?

  • What will you be offering to them?

  • Why should they go with you instead of a competitor?

  • Where will you engage with your clients?

  • How much will you earn AND spend to deliver this offering?

It is entirely possible to work through this planning exercise alone or with your team. If you choose to do that, make sure to give yourself a maximum time to answer the questions. I suggest no more than 3 hours total.

Remember, this is not your full business plan. This is the first step that will help you quickly rule an idea in or out, and which will position you to start developing a thorough and detailed action plan.
